Our Top Tips For Getting Started With Writing

Just Stop Thinking and Start Writing

The main thing when trying to start writing is to get out of your own way and just start writing. It almost doesn't matter what you write or how good it is- once you get started, inspiration usually kicks in and what you write gets better as you go along.

Treat yourself to a notebook and pen that is a pleasure to use.

Nice stationery makes the experience of writing feel like a treat rathe than a chore. Pleasant experiences mean you're more likely to stick at it. Check out our gorgeous notebooks and pens here

Change Your View

Take your laptop or notebook and head out into the real world! Sometimes working from a coffee shop or even in the park can be just the change you need in order to get the creative juices flowing.

Start with a brain-dump.

Jot down everything that's swirling around in your brain, get it onto paper so you can start to make sense of it and create a rough plan.

Chunk it.

Whenever I start writing anything, I always break it into chunks. I give each chunk a heading and I fill in the content as I go. I find this so much less daunting than staring at a blank page. This technique is what got me through my Master's Degree, and I use it every time I write a blog post here. Tried and tested!

Final Thoughts

Writer's block is hard, but not impossible to overcome. If you accept that you're in a funk and just push on through, you should, eventually, get your mojo back.

So, what are you waiting for?
