1- Shop small to find unique greetings cards

When myself and my now husband got engaged, we had a cocktail celebration. Our best friends and closest family put on their fanciest frocks and most uncomfortable shoes, and we partied. Most of them gave us an engagement card, I think we received about 15 in total. And I'm not even joking when I say that 8 of them were the same card. EIGHT. OF. THEM. Our wonderful friends and family had all (separately) gone to the same shop and chosen the same engagement card.

When you buy a greetings card online from a UK small business, you significantly reduce the chances of giving the recipient the same card as someone else. Now I'm not throwing shade at the 8 people at my engagement do, don't get me wrong. I appreciate the gesture and I still have their cards in a box. What I'm saying is that its nice to be different. Stand out from the crowd. Follow your own path. You get what I'm getting at.

2-Go for personalised cards

Did you know that the average adult in the UK receives just 7 birthday cards? That's not a huge amount, so we suggest making each one count. Many online UK greetings card makers offer personalised cards that can feature the recipient's name, age, special dates or other details. Personalised greetings cards show the recipient that you bought the card especially for them. They are real-life proof that you didn't just grab a card from the kitchen drawer, or pick one up for 50p with your grocery shopping. Also, personalised cards don't actually cost much more than non-personalised (the difference is only 75p - £1 on our cards)

3-Have fun with what you put inside the card

Greetings cards can be fun to write in- who knew?! Have fun with it and your recipient will be able to tell.

Here are some bonus ideas for how to do this:

  • Break out your fanciest writing and use a posh pen, just like new notebook day at school.
  • Doodle, draw or embellish in some way- we're talking stickers and stamps
  • Add a photograph of yourself and the recipient
  • Add a tuck in gift like seed packets, bookmarks or other flat objects
  • Write a fun and unique message inside. Make it personal, funny or memorable. Take a peek at some of our blog posts for some useful suggestions.
