How to write a thank you card message:
It can be tricky to know where to start when writing a thank you message. Here are our top tips for writing a thank you note for inside a card.
1- Write your thank you message out on a piece of scrap paper first. It can be really hard to get the words right and communicate your gratitude effectively. Write your thank you message out first and copy it inside your thank you card when you are happy with it.
2- Remember to say thank you! Address the person (Dear XXXX,) and then begin by saying thank you. We like the idea of including a little quote here from the list above, if it feels right, of course.
3- Reference the gift or the reason for your gratitude. Eg. Thank you so much for the beautiful scarf/train set/tickets to see Taylor Swift/money.
4- Tell them why you love it or how you'll use it Eg. It is the perfect match for my new coat. I love it/I've been wanting a train set for ages, I can't wait to use it/I was so disappointed when I didn't manage to get tickets and you've saved the day because Taylor Swift is my favourite/I'm currently saving for a coffee machine and your gift will really help me get to my total.
5- Make it about them. Let them know you appreciate their thoughtfulness, kindness, time, attention or service. Eg. You are so kind/Your thoughtfulness has blown me away/Your help and support have been so appreciated/ You have made such a big difference to our lives/You really brightened my day.
And if you don't like the gift, still use the above pointers but leave out the bit about how much you love it. You can still express your gratitude without lying.
Funny story- I was once gifted a Hanson album back in the 90s (yes, I'm THAT old) and thanked the giver of the gift by telling them I loved it (I did not particularly love it- don't get me wrong, I'm not dissing Hanson, I'm sure they are right up some people's street, just not mine). I have since received a Hanson-themed gift from this person every year. I'm 40 years old and certainly do NOT want a Hanson poster, calendar or mug. Don't be like me.
And remember, it really is the thought that counts. Sending a thank you card shows them that you appreciate their efforts. You can't really go wrong by sending nice thank you cards. If you need an awesome thank you card, you can check out our offerings HERE.
