How to Write the Best Wedding Card for Your Son or Daughter

greetings card inspiration Published Jul 29, 2024

It's the biggest day of your child's life so far, which means it's a pretty big day for you, too. No doubt you've got a gazillion things to organise before the wedding, so let us help you tick this one off the list.

Writing a heartfelt, meaningful wedding message for your child's special day can be overwhelming. Knowing where to start is tricky, and then there's all the pressure to write words that convey how you really feel.

Follow our fail-safe structure for wedding wishes for your son or daughter and you can't go wrong

1- The Greeting-

This is the easy bit. Start with one of these:

To my son/daughter and your bride/groom on your wedding day

To (your child's name) and (their partner's name)

2- The Emotional Bit-

Add something from the heart, just a sentence or two is fine. This could be as simple as telling your child how proud you are of them, how happy you are for them both or how perfect they are together.

If you want to go further, you might add a favourite memory, for example:

The moment you knew that they were the real deal as a couple

Memories of your child playing weddings when they were little

A funny story about how they wanted to marry Scooby-Doo when they were little (of course, change Scooby-Doo for their childhood crush)

3- Acknowledge your son or daughter's partner

Choose one of the following:

Name, we are thrilled to welcome you to our family.

Name, thank you for making our son/daughter so happy.

Name, thank you for marrying (insert your child's name), we've never seen him/her so happy.

4- The Congratulations Bit

Pick one of the following:

Congratulations on your special day. I/We couldn't be happier.

Wishing you a marriage filled with magic, joy, kindness and love.

We are so happy for you both and cannot wait to see what the future holds.

5- Sign-off

Another easy one, something along the lines of:

All our love, always, Mum and Dad

Bonus Tips-

  • Write your message out on a piece of scrap paper first. Plan what you're going to say so you don't write yourself into a corner.
  • Choose a card that they will want to frame as a permanent reminder of their special day. Check out these special personalised wedding cards worthy of your son or daughter's wedding.
